It’s an odd feeling. Leaving work for the last time. But on November 4, 2016 that’s exactly what we did. Steve gave his notice nearly 2 months out, where Melissa needed to be careful about giving hers. In the Dog Grooming world it isn’t uncommon for an employer to let a groomer go nearly instantly. This is done more often then not to prevent employees from taking clientele with them. In Steve’s case, he was simply harassed everyday up till the last about leaving. (If anyone from Shaw is reading, Love you guys <3 lol )
The last day for both of us was long. Lot’s of goodbyes, and farewells. Cakes, flowers, cards and the like. It was very nice to know both of our jobs were secure if we returned. Very bitter sweet leaving, but the time has come! Melissa dropper her car off at Steve’s cousins house in Nashua NH. We had sold it to Steve’s Niece as her first car! Very excited to see it go to family. Immediately after, Melissa and Steve’s cousin rode to the Campground where it all started, The Pines Campground Ashby, MA.
Just a handful of friends and co-workers came by and talked by campfire. Steve’s co-worker brought a freezer load of Venison in various forms. Melissa’s closet friends and her Fiance came to say there goodbyes. The farewells ended around midnight were we promptly went to bed. We planned on leaving around 8 am from the Campground. It was a sad, and awkward few days. Employed, with decent paying jobs. Consistent paychecks. We prepaid a ton of bills ahead of time. Cell phone, insurance etc. Bought bulk dry groceries and the like while in a tax free state. We were about to do, what most dream of doing but are to afraid. We quickly began to understand that fear. No jobs, saved money. Nothing but time to document our journey and share it with you. Will we survive? How long will we make it? Will we like it?
Only time will tell.
