Waking up to Donald Trump as our president
Thankfully our route now takes us south, southwest. As the traffic for everyone wanting to leave the country will be headed north! It was a very short morning with my grandparents and it would be the last time we see them for quite a while. It makes me nervous due to their age being so far away. We said our goodbyes and hit the road around 10am or so. So far we’ve driven about 530 miles and burned through $150+ in fuel. Steve has said our MPG has been really good at 11+mpg avg for the trip. We anticipated to spend around $1000 to make our trip to Quartzsite AZ.
Leaving Derby we decided to try another back route (we didn’t learn the first time) and again Steve nor myself where impressed. Lots of slow 35mph roads with very steep hills in all directions. The truck and the camper did well otherwise. We inspected the camper the few times we stopped for the dogs and we have gotten better at securing things. Nothing much fell over considering the bumpy roads and hills!
We drove and stopped at Waterloo NY, a city Steve would stop at when he drove tractor trailer over the road. There’s a Petro Truck Stop there. He had said we shouldn’t park at truck stops, but this one was a little different. They had an area outside of the truck stop that was deserted and was open to parking of all kinds. We did see a few RV’s and vans. We found our spot and called it a night. Snacking on sandwiches and watching something on the laptop we all (dogs and all) passed out in the bed. You’d never know how many dogs you can fit in a bed till you try. In our case it was three and two humans!
Steve makes my day with a surprise stop tomorrow!
