This morning we woke up in a Walmart parking lot.
A strange thing for me, not because it’s weird. It’s just one of those things you never expect to do but it does have it’s benefits. While doing a quick shopping trip the night before we forgot creamer. Well, we can now walk out our front door and get creamer. We grabbed breakfast inside and hit the road shortly there after.
The goal for the day was to not only cover miles, but to de-winterize the camper. Our fresh water system hasn’t been used other then testing at this point. We started looking for state parks along our route. We stumbled across one in Illinois by accident. Sadly we didn’t get the name of the place. It seemed to be closed when we arrived. No one in the office and a sign pointing campers out towards the camping area. When driving out there we came across the dump and water station. Steve ran 4 cycles he said. Filled up the water tank, then ran the pump while leaving the faucets on. He’d then dump the gray tanks.
We eventually got to a point where the water was clear and decided that we’d shower with it only. We’d use water stations to fill 5 gallons at a time to cook, drink and feed the animals with. We carried on and couldn’t find anywhere to stay. Coming up on a truck stop Steve cautiously pulled in. He said we shouldn’t take up a parking space that should go to a driver who by law needs to stop, and without question needs the sleep. It was relatively empty, and late. Steve found us a spot out back and we backed in. While walking the dogs we noticed one of our landing gear legs was very low. Steve tried raising it, injuring his wrist in the process. Looks like we’ll be ordering a new leg in the future.
After playing with the hot water heater and getting it work, we took our first showers in the camper since buying it nearly 10 months earlier! IT WAS GLORIOUS!! After our showers we settled in with a movie and were smothered by dogs.
Tomorrow we go through St. Louis!
