The way humans grow is amazing yet strangely frustrating. We have one of the longer gestation periods of most animals on earth. We require more rearing from infancy, until “Maturity” as well. Even into our maturity it’s learned that most of us aren’t really “grown up” and still have lots of growing to do. We learn not only from our environment, but from our elders, parents, teachers and other authority types through out our life on what is right, wrong and acceptable. How we dress, live, what we eat and how we speak. They teach us public perception.
This blog that will coincide with a YouTube channel will document a chapter of my life where I feel a even deeper level of learning and growing is occurring. There have been giant shifts in my thinking over the last few years that most would find outrageous, silly or even dangerous. But as time and research has gone on, it’s been discovered there is a large growing movement towards the decisions and life changes I’ve made for myself. The most current research says that as few as 500k people/families up to 2 million+ have made this choice. What choice is this you ask? Full time RV living.
Full time RV living can mean so much to so many different people. In short, the most basic description and or definition means anyone who doesn’t have a permanent residence in a traditional home and chooses to live in a RV. It could be a travel trailer, fifth wheel camper or even a motor home. It can be Boon docking ( meaning no utility hookups, usually done in isolated areas either public or private land ) or living in RV camp grounds, all year long.

People choose this over traditional living for many reasons. Save money, forced due to foreclosure on their homes or because it is their only option short of living in shelters or on the street. In my case it was to downsize a life that wasn’t working for me. Every year more money was made, and a larger more lavish apartment, or rented home was had. The larger the home, the more things that needed to be bought. The more to clean. $500 a month, $800, $1200 and up was spent just for rent let alone utilities. The most I’ve ever personally spent on one place with all utilities being factored in was close to $1500+ a month. Or, $18,000 for the year. That’s a decent used car, or even new in some cases. That’s a fair price for a decently used travel trailer/fifth wheel camper or even an slightly older motor home. I’ve made this choice to alter my spending habits on my choice of dwelling. To fight back against the public perception of what’s necessary to be considered and to feel successful in life and to allow my self the freedom of travel and to cut unnecessary costs.
My name is Steve Dewitz and I’ve made the choice to live in a travel trailer full time with my 3 dogs. We hope you’ll follow our adventures so you may gain some insight into this lifestyle or even help us learn a thing or two through engagement. See you down the road!
